There are some things you read and you just have to stop for a minute. I’m guessing you have figured from my title just what that was for me. (Either that or you said to yourself “THAT’s why Paul said no women teachers”)
I was half way through another blog, when I was derailed by a devotional by G K Chesterton that changed my course.

It could have to do with timing. This IS, of course, a big week. While much of the world focuses on eggs and bunnies, the church (as in big “C”) prepares for Superbowl Sunday- the celebration of the risen king.
But who knew Friday was the day when God took up the cry of the atheist? At least that’s what G K Chesterton boldly proposes.

He writes:  “Let the atheists themselves choose a god. They will find only one divinity who ever uttered their isolation; only one religion in which God seemed for an instant to be an atheist.”

The words leapt off the page and shocked me.
But isn’t that what happened in the Garden of Gethsemane?
Isn’t that what happened on the cross?

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” the Son of God cried out.
We call it Good Friday, though it seemed to be anything but.

Is there no one there?” Jesus cried.
No one, the silent sky answered back.

“No one there.”

Until

That cry changed from being shouted to an empty sky,
to being proclaimed at an empty tomb.

And that is the hope that fuels us when the sky looks empty for us.
